Vilena – a new doll for sale

After the long-continued technological “wars” for quality, I have received the result I have been striving to. I proudly present you a new Dea Vivente – Vilena.

As I promised, this doll will be sold, and the buyer will be determined via the auction at the Dea Vivente website. The auction starts for bidding on the 11th June 2012 and ends on the 19th June 2012 at 00:00 Moscow time (GMT+04:00).
Besides, I have succeeded in putting my thoughts considering copyright policy in order, and now they are presented in the respective section on the site.

Vilena is a very soft, tender and feminine girl. I like her long blond hair, it’s natural and looks very realistic. The blond wig will be included in the doll’s set.
Outdoor photo-session in the early morning was incredibly thrilling, and many hours had passed before I shut the lid of the lens and went on to look at the shooting results.

All the outdoor photos can be seen at the Vilena gallery.

During the process of painting I was inspired by the look of red locks together with Vilena’s face, they suit her virtually perfectly and look as good as the blond ones. That’s why I decided not to deprive Vilena of the opportunity to wear red coloured hair, to make this wig and add it to the doll’s set.

I have made the second photo-session to be a studio one. Red Vilena with haircut and styling looks more dignified and stately.

You can look at the studio photo-session in the Gallery.

P.S.
The site registration of users is open. You will find more about registration in the special section.
The auction FAQ and the example of sales and purchase agreement will be available later before the start of the auction.

“Things that I love about…”- painting a doll

I love to put different hair locks to a doll face so much during the process of painting it – it allows me to look at the conceived doll from a different angle and to “polish” the details of her image, and it captivates me so much that I can spend much time at this activity!

For the beginning – an enigma image: let your imagination fly!

Fantasize a bit, what this new Dea Vivente is going to look like? Probably, she will stay like this, but maybe you will not recognize her when she is a heroine of new photographs.

Right now I’ll show you the results of high firing – the doll’s parts put together. The new porcelain that the girls are cast from is beautiful flesh toned, shining a bit and even shimmering. I’m glad that Dea Vivente are going to become even better.

I like the look of fired porcelain – this is yet the “blank canvas” meant for picturing a painting.

And now some words about painting.
In doll sphere, toning the parts of body is called “blushing”, and this is what I’m doing in the following photo.

Blushing helps a doll to acquire a living and real-like look, since the body gets shadows, all its volumes are highlighted, in this case the look of human skin is imitated. It is important that the transitions of tones should be smooth and seamless, that’s why I must be careful to the “spots” to be well stumped.

I always love the transformation of a blank doll into a painted one. And I’m pleased with perception of a doll getting closer to life! The two following photographs illustrate it – this is how feet look like before the painting and after it.

Also, a careful reader will notice that the joints in ankles have been revised and now the feet look more natural.

The following photo shows the work on painting the first layer of a face in progress. At this stage I outline overall features and paint the details that are going to be refined in the following layers, each of those are fixed via firing in a kiln.

Painting a face is the most difficult and crucial, at the same time, the most interesting process for me in the work with paints, because then an unborn doll “opens” her eyes, finds her face, her expression and overall mood depends entirely on my hand’s movements. Layer by layer, a doll’s face becomes animate, and for that I need to work carefully on 3-4 layers.

Some more of workdays

Some words on workdays since the last post.

These days the mail has delivered the part of new previously ordered fibers for wig making. They are so soft! And thinner than mohair. I’ve tried to wash and comb one lock of each and it was a real pleasure touching them. Very calming procedure. :-) The white locks one can see in the photo (besides, this is Dea, not yet one of the new dolls) are very long – about 30 cm (12″). I haven’t decided yet for sure what hair colours I’m going to use for the new girls, but I’m so excited about these fibers and can’t wait to work with them!
I’ll add some more photos taken during the working process.

These are dolls’ parts after the first bisque firing, lying in our beloved kiln, following by a photo of those parts put together to form a doll. I don’t know why, but I’m crazy about white unpainted dolls, they remind me of marble sculptures of bygone days. Sometimes I feel pity when thinking of blank parts to be painted, and I can contemplate them for ages, though later I recollect about the dolls who should live their own lives, my sorrow leaves me and I want to find out as soon as possible what eyes a new Dea Vivente will look at me with.
After the bisque firing the parts’ surface needs good and fine sanding, so that the dolls become smooth and neat in the end.

This is me at work – I’m busy with sanding. I even the surface over a basin of water, where I’m constantly plunging a piece in work, to prevent inhaling porcelain dust.
For more photos of a work in progress, you can check my Flickr page, as usual.

P. S. At this time, both dolls are having a rest from my hands in a flaming kiln, undergoing the second firing, the high one, and the next photo shows the ‘sun’ they are lying under! :-)

About 12 hours more will pass before I can get down to painting my girls.
